Belt I received my book a couple of days ago and I am still reading and looking thru it, so I have not gotten all the way thru it yet. This is going to be a very handy reference book for me using my iPad. I have always had to call my kids for help. I look forward to showing them a thing or soon. I am impressed with the book. It is well written. Nice size. 529 pages. "My iPad for Seniors” has a user rating from beginner to intermediate. I agree. I don’t think that my son-n-law, who is a computer programmer will get much out of this book. Then again he is not a senior and I am, and I thick this book will be very helpful..The book even covers the IOS 9 which I have been worried about loading on my iPad. Seems I have problems when there is an major update and I usually am not pleased with the changes. At least now I have a book to refer to when I have a problem. There is so much that this book covers that it is impossible to write about all of them. The book goes from the simple side as to how to hook up your iPad to your wi-fi, to taking photos and them editing them using various photo apps. If you are looking for an alternative to those “dummies” book, then this book is for you. I highly recommend this book as a great iPad reference book.

By Deb I do have another instructional iPad book intended for seniors. Unlike this one, “My iPad for Seniors,” it’s truly basic and intended for the crowd who just wants to turn the darn thing on. Yes, this one is for seniors, but for the senior who wants to really explore and use the many features an iPad has to offer. Younger generations have grown up with technology and are erudite. This book is one that will help most seniors become tech-savvy at least when it concerns the iPad. It’s a perfect book for the person who is a visual learner and needs a step-by-step approach. For example, I love the section on working with and filling in web forms. There’s a sidebar that is a mini-instructional that discusses how your iPad camera can be used as a scanner to enter in a credit card number. Just how good can it get? Frankly, I didn’t even know this feature existed.Color coding is a nice feature the author has taken full advantage of in this book. The top edge of the book is color coded by chapter, making it much easier for the user to get back to an important chapter. I simply bend the edge of the book back and fan it to get back to something I liked. Of course “It’s Not All Good” and there are bold red sidebars that talk about the drawbacks of certain features. There are light green sidebars that encourage the senior to “Go Further,” like the one that talks about using the camera feature as a scanner. There are many, many of these in this book. The light blue areas are the main topic areas. These have all the basic need-to-know features that will come in handy on a day-to-day basis. Creating bookmarks (deleting them), arranging apps on the home screen, creating a calendar, and other basics are things seniors need to know how to do. The step-by-step instructions and visuals are exactly what seniors need to become more proficient with the iPad. Glancing around in this book, I see a few tutorials I can use myself. The Apple store does have in-house classes, but this type of book is perfect for those who can’t attend them. I do have a couple of senior relatives who are new to the iPad and need some help. I see this type of book not as one that insults a seniors intelligence, but rather is one that will help bring them up to a greater level of proficiency. Very nicely put together book that’s perfect for seniors who want to know more about their iPads and how they work.

A Must Reference for Seniors using iPads By aar1 Occasionally am asked to give a workshop on Apple machines and devices (i.e. iPads, iPad minis, iPhones, Macs et al) to a Senior Computer Club. Currently I use “My iPad” as a reference, and am reluctant to recommend it to the workshop participants. When the opportunity to obtain “My iPad for Seniors” the order was place. First, let me say any book written by Gary Rosenzweig is a winner, and this is one. (MyiPad for Seniors)The book covers the recently released (September 2015) iOS 9, with indicators noting the “new” features. Further, this version covers all models of the iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad pro, iPad 3/4 generations, in addition to the iPad 2. Que offers an on-line bonus chapter titled “Writing with Pages” - register to access the bonus chapter! Extremely well laid out, with step-b-step pictorial instructions for using the iPad.Color coded table of content with a detailed “index” makes this book a must for seniors. The section “finding and using apps for entertainment (i.e. watching movies/shows using Netflix) is a real plus. Reasonably priced with a Kindle Edition auto-delivered wirelessly. Highly recommended without reservations.Note: The only addition I would suggest is expanding the “Find My iPad” section to include steps to be taken when an iPad/iPhone is lost or stolen.
