The premise of an LDS colony on the moon escaping persecution, but succeeding in building a thriving community is awesome. It's so difficult to find books that are fun to read and don't assault your morals or insult your intelligence. Moon Temple filled both of those requirements for me. Hope there is a sequel to the book!

Paralleling the pioneer experience in Utah, LDS settlers have colonized the Moon under biodomes to escape more persecution on Earth. I thought that idea sounded like fun, so I decided to read this book, written by a member of my ward at church.Daughter of one of these first pioneers, Sierra Young is the colony's security chief. When the Prophet plans a visit to dedicate the new temple on the Moon, it's her job to uncover conspiracies and investigate suspicious people. Going to church and falling in love are not on the to-do list, but the Prophet's head of security Jake will try to change her mind about both of those things. My favorite parts were the descriptions of moon life - how the biodomes work, the effects of low gravity on bone density, etc. I also thought Sierra's spiritual experiences were well-portrayed, even though usually in LDS fiction it's hard for me to get into that part of the story.I thought the "persecution" on Earth was unrealistic, and wished the characters had a little more depth. I wanted Jake to have some faults, and wanted the villain to have a few more strengths and reasonable ideas. I also would have loved to see a little more depth in her detective work, and would have liked to see more practical effects of the "health cuff" and choosing not to use it.If you find yourself wishing there were more books in the LDS-romance-science-fiction category, this may be the book for you. That's a pretty narrow range of focus, but people that enjoy all three of those will probably like this book.
