It could probably be cut in half By Carol Mannchen I was sorry to see that the one person who rated this book gave it a 2. It is wordy and deserves a good editor. It could probably be cut in half. Still the plot is good and the characters interesting. I was drawn in and read all 800+ pages. I think it could have been cut in half, and I hope this author's second book will be shorter. The pacing is also a bit off. Several generations are covered in the first 200 pages or so, and then the last 600 pages consists of only about 20 years. I could say more, but would be giving away the plot.

Beautiful Story By Barbara270 While longer than it needed to be, and with almost constant mention of rising and falling tides and how they affected the coming and going to the island, I did enjoy the book. It's a story beautifully written, though at times a bit repetitive. It's a "gentle" story of love, families, and one women's search to learn the truth about her mother's death and in the end who she was as a wife, mother, and daughter.

Stunning use of language By Sara Castelli Although the story does drag some, the word pictures and descriptions of weather, flowers, sea, and surrounding areas are superb. Even if the story seemed long, it was the wonderful use of language that got me caught up. Even the emotions, especially of the young girls. I'd read her again and not worry on the length.
