Amazon Bestseller in New Adult & College Fantasy It's tough being a thirteen-year old schoolboy, especially when you're an accident-prone coward and the big brother who stuck up for you is dead. Oh, and you've been thrust into a magical realm you're expected to save single-handedly. Sebastian Duffy has an awful lot of skills to learn in a hurry if he is to defeat Phobitor by stealing the spear of Lugh from the peace-loving Tuath. Sebastian woke with terror in his heart. His dream was a prophecy and he read it in a second. They intended to kill him, imminently. He's been given some help of course-a mercurial sorceress, an orphaned druidess, a taciturn warrior, a snuff-sniffing leprechaun and a lovelorn poet- an outfit known as the Hibernauts, but can he really overcome a psychopathic warmongering god when half the realm is bent on his destruction? There was a searing flash and Sebastian found himself sailing through the air. As he span upward, multiple colors appeared, resolving into broad bands. He watched the rainbow arc up into the air, up, up, up, higher and higher, disappearing into the thick black clouds. If he is to have the remotest chance he will have to outsmart hordes of aiia, cluricaun, brigands, woodwose, undead warriors, speckled bats, spies, hunkypunks, traitors, skeletons, gobbleratches and battle-swine first. And are those Tuath really so peaceable? If only he could find his courage. The Traitor's Trap is the second installment in the Sebastian and the Hibernauts series, the fast-paced, endlessly twisting adventure saga set in Hibercadia, a Celtic dreamworld brimful of quizzing glasses and magic shillelaghs, mechanical fireworks and night rainbows, fantastical creatures and outrageous skullduggery, tragedy and joy.

Review An imaginative epic...an intricate and fully realised fantasy world with a big cast of likeable characters that are charming, well drawn and endearing, with wonderfully apt names. The depth and breadth of the author'shigh-voltage imagination and the richness of the world created is very impressive. Sam Mills, Author of Blackout, The Boys Who Saved the World, and The Quiddity of Will Self I cannot say just how much I haveenjoyed this book ... a very accomplished writer with a wonderfully rich imagination and an incredibly inventive mind. Readers will come to love the manywonderful creations in this novel, it is jam-packed with the mostwonderful and inventive characters; new, exciting and beautifully realised. CherryMosteshar, Author of Unveiled: One Woman's Nightmare in Iran Just like the previous book, The Traitor's Trap comes with a very rich plot full of imagination. Brendan Murphy created a world that every kid -- and even adult -- would love to get lost into. I love the characters -- they were beautifully created and they had the most interesting names as well! I don't think you would want to put down this book once you have started reading it.The Book Lovers' Lounge
From the Author As a child, I immersed myself in a magical land of stories. As I grew older and reality crumbled the edifices of my fantastical world, I longed to recreate the rare and noble alchemy compressed between the covers of a children's book. My adult heart had added requirements: these would be books for adults and children, layered with themes and symbols, high and low. With a nod to the rip-roaring adventures I had loved as a boy, I set about writing the Sebastian and the Hibernauts series. Sebastian is a boy on the cusp of adolescence, lonely and confused, dazzled by life's cruelties. Thrust into a Celtic mythological landscape, his journey into adulthood begins. The stories are brimful of ghosts and gobbleratches, hunkypunks and barguest, leprechauns and cluricaun, mechanical fireworks and magic shillelaghs, quizzing glasses and night rainbows. There's a dastardly whodunit to keep you on your toes, several secret romances nestled amongst the pages, and skullduggery, treachery and twists and turns galore. Welcome to Hibercadia. Let the wonderment begin!

The twisted plot will tie you in knots By Sher A Hart The world (realm) introduced in Beyond the Gloaming, book 1 of Sebastian and the Hibernauts, remains impressive in its creativity. In The Traitor’s Trap, action, danger, and mystery abound, all essential to books for middle-graders. Yet in spite of starring a thirteen-year-old boy, book 2 seems more directed at adults and older teens. The machinations of the gods should satisfy any adult’s thirst for solving puzzles. Whatever you thought you knew (about certain characters, creatures, and events) will change. In fact, the plot is so convoluted it may confuse tweens and younger teens. Not to say they shouldn’t read it, just that parents should read first (or read along) and be ready to discuss and explain. That includes language. Hard to admit for an editor who reads Stephen R. Donaldson, but some of the words were unfamiliar. As book 2 in a series, The Traitor’s Trap is best read soon after book 1. Otherwise, read the character directory in back to refresh your memory about the large cast of characters. I didn’t realize it was there and felt lost in the first part of the book. Good thing the plot kept me interested until the most important characters reestablished their roles if not their physical appearances. Those remain lost in my memory except for Conall’s ginger hair and Druddy’s breed (deerhound) because I relearned those far into the book. I wish there’d been more clues to appearance, roles, and relationships sprinkled in the beginning. The Traitor’s Trap takes Sebastian on a difficult quest to obtain a terrible weapon, yet his hardest task is learning the truth about who wants the best for the realm and its people. In some crises, his discoveries and choices concerning motives of others become his downfall. In others, his own choices lead to everyone’s downfall – or salvation. Even with all the complications of tales for adults, The Traitor’s Trap is still a coming of age story. Bottom line: when internal conflict and the consequences of a character’s choices dwarf the battles raging outside, I’ve found a writer worthy of my time.Content warning for violence. Parents should read book 1 and decide whether their children can handle it or the creatures at least as scary as ring wraiths. All I can say is that at age nine, I would have hidden under my bed, terrified, like I did reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and I would have fought if someone tried to take either book away. Editing was better than in most indie books, yet not to trade standards. I was provided a free copy in exchange for an honest review: 4 of 5 stars.

The Traitor's Trap By Amazon Customer I received an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The first and probably the most important thing to say is that this is a second book, one that you cannot read without reading the first one. You simply wouldn't understand too many things. Reading the first book even I felt lost sometimes. The plot was just as adventurous as the first book was, it almost felt like Sebastian couldn't catch a breathe when it would have been good to let things slow down just a tad bit sometimes. The world was still the best thing about this book, I am blown away by the world the author has created, it's full of creativity and new things everywhere. But I still feel like it could have been stratched out and given more material to spread out the information so it wouldn't be too many things all at once.Another thing that I noticed while reading this book (and it kind of bothered me during the first one too), that the main character, Sebastian is supposed to be 13 years old and if I'd have to put the book into a category, I'd say it's a middle grade book, but the writing is much more superior and I'm pretty sure middle graders couldn't understand a good chunk of the book because of that. It felt off for me.After reading two books from this series, I'm not exactly sure if I will continue with it or not, so I guess I'll see whether or not I'll feel like it when the next book comes out.

Not a stand alone novel By Carol While I found this fantasy adventure novel to be very well written and engaging, I was lost for most of the book because I had not read the previous novel in the series. It is definitely not a stand alone novel. Nevertheless, I was extremely impressed with the intricacies and the depth of detail within this book. The author has a great imagination and a magnificent way of portraying it. The characters are intriguing and the character development is excellent. The main character of this book is 13 years old. But in my humble opinion, this book would be way over the heads of most middle school aged children. The language is advanced, the plot has lots of twists and turns, and the writing is well above a middle school reading level. Older teens and adults who enjoy fantasy and adventure would likely love this book. Just remember, read book one first. For my full review visit MoreThanAReview dot com where I rate books based on language, violence, sexual content and drug/alcohol use.
