About the Author James J. Griffin is author of the Texas Ranger Jim Blawcyzk and the Texas Ranger Cody Havlicek series of western novels. Griffin, a member of Western Writers of America and Western Fictioneers, is a lifelong horseman, western enthusiast, and unofficial historian of the Texas Rangers. He has contributed an extensive collection of Texas Ranger artifacts to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas.

Vaughan There are few things in our nation's history that evoke the imagery and fire the imagination like the Texas Rangers. Yes, I know they belong to Texas, but in a greater sense they belong to all of us, to anyone who has ever thought about duty, honor ,or courage. James Griffin knows his subject like few others, and in RIDE FOR REDEMPTION, Ranger Cody Havlicek manifests all those traits. He also shows discernment when he realizes that John Harmon, the prisoner he is escorting, has his own code of honor, and is willing to sacrifice his own freedom to protect someone else. There are raging bizzards, blazing gunfights, and grievious wounds, but Ranger Havlicek perseveres.

By Mary Jane Kail Texas Ranger Cody Havlicek is assigned to take prisoner, John Harmon to Huntsville where he will begin serving his sentence for bank robbery after being found guilty in Menard, Texas. This whole situation is strange & Cody is determined to get to the truth because nothing about this robbery is as it should be. To begin with, Harmon has a wife & three kids & is apparently a good law abiding citizen. So why was he holding the horses as the robbers were in the bank?When the robbers came out, witnesses said that it almost looked like it was on purpose when one of the robbers brushed against Harmon causing his mask to slip so everyone nearby could see his face clearly. With the posse on their heals Harmon takes cover behind some rocks & holds the posse while his cohorts make their getaway clean as a whistle then stands & gives himself up.Through all the questioning Harmon refuses to give up the names of the hombre's that were with him & sets the stage for a mystery that will take Ranger Cody Havlicek's best skills to find the answers to all the questions this case presents.There were so many endearing characters in this story...The priests at San Saba Mission, the inhabitants of Redemption, Sally May, a saloon girl, outlaw Ben McQueen and Mack McNamara. All who proved that people are not always what they seem.It's obvious that this writer loves animals, horses in particular. It shows through in his descriptions of Yankee, the peppermint loving horse & the care Ranger Cody bestows on his faithful mount. I loved those interactions in the story & it made it so much more interesting & heart-felt.Highly recommend this cleanly written tale of the Texas Rangers.
