0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent early source material By Howard D. Sins This is Dugald Clerk's seminal work concerning gas engines. This fifth edition of 1894 covers much theory of gas engines as understood at the time, but also features many detailed descriptions of engines popular at the time, including Brayton's Ready-Motor, Otto and Langen's atmospheric engine, Gilles, Atkinson, and, of course, Otto's slide valve engine and various engines and accessories by the author himself. Includes a brief history of gas engine development up to Otto, and an interesting discussion of ignition devices, concentrating mainly on flame ignition types. Excellent early source material, and quite readable.
