2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Best YA Horror I've read in ages! By Sci-Fi & Scary Beneath Claire's House is the best YA Horror book I have read in ages. It is a goosebump-raising read filled with fantastic lines and vivid descriptions, and at least one twist that will take the reader by surprise. It manages to do all this while at the same time being absent of any mentions of sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, lust/love, or even excessive goriness.Basically... its a book your 14 year old could read. S/he might be creeped out and completely unwilling to sleep with a light off for a while, but theoretically, they could read it. (Parental discretion may be advised, though, as the murder of young is mentioned.)I have no criticisms of this book. I didn't even spot a single misspelling or missing comma! Needless to say, I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Super scary ghosts that she is convinced are trying to harm her. Her father’s solution is to put her in a mental health facility where she is diagnosed schizophrenic. But is she really?This books is full of mystery and excitement. Claire seems like such a realistic and likeable character. She’s extremely brave, almost to the point of recklessness. I really loved the way the author put this story together. It moves very quickly, which made me happy because I was dying to find out where these ghosts were coming from and what they wanted with Claire!The other characters that Claire interacts with are also interesting and some of them, well your heart just goes out for them and their situations.This book is full of horrors that are age appropriate, but still scary.

Pleasantly surprised by how into Beneath Claire's House I was. I'm not too crazy about horror type paranormal genres, but this was not scary gooey type like Carrie at all. It's a thriller that has supernatural elements that will pop at you, but won't make your heart jump out. It's all in the mind and for me, I read into it, following the narration of Claire. Now, don't get me wrong. This is a thriller and the vivacity of Corey's descriptions of events will get the hair on your skin to stand up (almost cartoon-ishly), but it's anything but comical. Corey has a way with words that gives you a very clear visual image, from the rec room in St. Thomas to their hundred year-old home, you will not miss its significance in following the story. The surprising twists and turns throughout the story will keep you guessing, and all for the better. Who wants a thriller that you can easily figure out?For my friends that love a clean novel, besides the supernatural elements, this novel is devoid of any sexual content, profanity and substance abuse and will be a read that any teenager and adult can enjoy. Because of the minor mental disturbing factor from the supernatural elements, I wouldn't recommend this for younger than teenage audiences. However, for adults and young adults, you'll enjoy this for its story and be truly satisfy by Corey's writing and creativity. Corey J.
