1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unapologetic Alien Anthropology By MaryM I received a complimentary copy of this book from Reading Deals in exchange for an honest review. Passing for Human is a comic science fiction satire--something you won't come across often. The narrator is a dolphin like Alien Anthropologist wearing a series of human body/identities, starting with Brenda Starr and ending with Virginia Woolf, in order to explore and learn about the primitive "bushmen" of earth, so a consortium of Alien governors can decide whether it's a good idea to euthanize the human race in order to save the other races in the universe. In the course of her "investigations" she leaves a trail of bodies behind, and feels no remorse because she and the other aliens are immortal, switching in and out of bodies at will. This in itself is quite a parody of the kind of effects anthropologists may have on the societies they propose to "study" here on earth. Of course there is also a Satanic, evil Alien, out to enslave the human race for its own purposes. Within these parameters what follows is a wild romp culminating in a final duel between the alien forces of good and evil, with the future of humanity somewhere in the balance. An entertaining read.

The story opens with a Mad Max-esq road race and closed with more than a bang or two. Prepare to consider the human condition from strange new and fascinating perspectives. As bizarre as it may sound, the alien characters are relatable (to me, at least), not as alien as you might think initially. I highly recommend the book to anyone wishing fresh perspectives or just a couple hours of escape to a far away place in your own head. I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, so I could give an honest review.

The actual designs are not only creative, but provide great starting points for personal embellishment. The instructions are clearly stated with drawings that actually are clearly drawn and make sense. I have had many hours just happily making these friendship bracelets and my only problem to date is what to do with them all??!! Love it.

Love the step by step instructions By B I would say that this book is more suited for a 10 or 12 year old girl who would appreciate the different designs that can be made. Got this gift for my 7 year old granddaughter who loves to craft. Thought she would take to making friendship bracelets as her mother had when she was this age. The concept of just making a friendship bracelet escapes her at this age. Give her a few years & she will be ready to throw out that rainbow loom.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 'SHOCK AND AWE' By Griever After reading 'The World's Strongest Gambler: The First Gamble' I was glad to discover and read this. 'The Great War' follows on from the events of 'The First Gamble' and the continuation of each characters personal objectives - as well as an immersive 'pre story' [itself worthy of the same praise] that changes the tone significantly like the difference between night and day. The 'pre story' is fully fleshed out and realized and not, like some books that I've read, lazy or a gimmick like we see so much of these days. It presents a world of war and ultra violence and destruction, something we can relate to in our world, but does so in a much grander scale with cities rocking through combat and skyscrapers flattened. The imagery here was second to none and I can't think of any author who it could be compared to - such is the originality and vivid nature of the descriptions. The scenes play out as brightly as if I were watching and not reading the events and have stayed in my imagination long since finishing 'The Great War'. I was especially impressed that this was achieved without overly 'flowery' words - much like the first book - it is a solid, strong read. Because of what I was 'seeing', I had to press on to read more and more. Most books [and movies] these days start strong for 'shock and awe' factor but quickly dry up within the next chapter - The Great War kept the shock and awe as steadily as an increasing heartbeat and I salute Andre A. Spence for that talent.None of the new concepts or places or characters felt intrusive to me; they brought more depth to the story, making what I loved about the first book, richer, and we are told [as readers] what we need to know, just when we need to know it. One part story is for the previous characters and their continuing growth and fight and the other part is the battle against a being who embodies war in all its ugliness and brutality and the men and women who are fighting for their lives against it across time.I believe, with no doubt, that these characters and books will be thought of as iconic. And I already look forward to more from Spence. Great work.
