Bridget is a medium and sees ghosts. She’s recently relocated to St. Augustine, FL (one of my favorite places to visit!) and opened a shop selling occultish items. When women start dying, Bridget finds herself in the middle of the whole ordeal.This book had some really fun characters. RIP was hilarious. I love that he does ghost tours in St. Augustine. Bridget herself was a really interesting character as well. Her ghost vision was on point. Nick was a typical hard headed, previously scorned cop, but his partner Travis, omg I loved him. He had more sayings than a dog has fleas! He cracked me up big time. Even Bridget’s friends were fun. It’s rare that I find a book where almost every single character is likeable like that.My only complaint about Matanzas Moon is that it felt kind of slow in the beginning. It took me a bit to stay with it, but I’m glad I did. Not too far into the book it picks up the pace and from there on out it is craziness.This book is a good read for anyone who likes ghost stories and doesn’t mind a little bit of romance. I like how the romance didn’t take away from the ghosts. I really liked the location, as I know where many of the places mentioned are at. I think this author has a lot of potential as subsequent books come out. She’s one to watch for sure!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Awesome first time author! highly recommend !!! By karlieh74 I was pleasantly surprised by this first time writer. The book keeps a steady pace and the author's development of her characters makes you fall in love with them. I found myself falling into the story and having great difficulty putting this book down. The book has great details about a wonderful and historic town that we Floridians would crucify anyone that did not represent it justly, and she showed our beloved city the proper reverence and respect all the while spinning her yarn working in the lore of the city itself. Her characters are very well developed but as this is the first book in a series she left me both fulfilled by this story and with the feeling that I could not wait for the next book. I cannot wait to see what additional shenanigans her characters get into and to get to know her characters' individual stories, which she does well in both telling, when she does, and foreshadowing, when she doesn't tell. I give this book my recommendation. I absolutely LURVED IT!

It will not make someone a Linux command-line or shell expert. It would he easier to read if the editor had done a better job.

Magnificent Story - Highly Recommended By Maudeen Wachsmith This is a book for anyone who had a sister or, like me, wished they had a sister.Jilly, Birdie, and Rose - ¾ of the four Season sisters are gathered at their childhood home in Evanston, Illinois after the death of the fourth sister, Merry. It is Merry's last wish that will have the other three on an adventure which will not only have them searching for the child Jilly gave up for adoption 26 years earlier, but for themselves at the same time.Jilly who left home years ago for elegance and wealth in Europe has returned for good. Despite her fancy clothes and furs, she is broke and all alone. Seemingly without purpose in life, her modeling career over, she really doesn't know who else to turn to but her sisters. Her whole life is a sham - will she be able to tell her sisters how broke she really is? Will she ever find the love of her life? And will her search for the daughter she gave up for adoption be successful?The second sister, Birdie, has become a physician. Always the studious one, she has married Dennis Connor, a man who Jilly dated as a teenager, and has a teenage daughter, Hannah, who in typical teenage fashion is giving her mother a rather difficult time. Birdie's husband, too, is giving her grief. What will happen when Dannyboy insists on meeting Rose?Event though the fourth sister, Merry, has died by the time the book begins, she is as much a character as any of other others and, in fact some might argue she is the most important character. She becomes known to the reader through a series of flashbacks and via her sisters' recollections. All that is known to the reader in the beginning is that Merry had a childhood accident leaving her forever a child. It is her final request that brings the sisters together on a quest which makes up the second half of the book - a quest which will definitely, for all of them, reveal more than any of them had believed.There are so many wonderful and realistic scenes in this book that it's hard to know where to begin. Each sister is so different from the other, it's hard to believe they were raised by the same set of parents. Each of them too is still baring the guilt of Merry's accident - each of them feeling somehow responsible.Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. And although I would tend to view this book more as women's fiction because of its depth, the fact that there are three characters finding love instead of just one, and the fact that the main focus of the book appears to be the growth of each character from within -- but with finding love as a consequence of that growth. The use of flashbacks proved very effective in getting to know the characters. And that's the author's strength - characterization - and she does it admirably well, giving each character their individual strengths and weaknesses, and each their individual "voice" as well.This book would appeal to readers who enjoyed THE SAVING GRACES by Patricia Gaffney, THE HOUSE ON OLIVE STREET by Robyn Carr, TALK BEFORE SLEEP by Elizabeth Berg, and even Mary Alice Monroe's previous book, THE BOOK CLUB.I found it to be one of the best books I've read so far this year and highly recommend it as I believe it would appeal to readers of women's fiction and romance as well.

I was in a deep reading rut when i came across this one in my pile of boooks to be read and it immediately grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go. What a wonderful story about sisters' relationships and self discovery! I will be reading more by Mary Alice Monroe.

I love Mary Alice Monroe books but this is the same story as Sweetgrass. I do not understand why it has a different title but it was the same story.

Our Heros In The Firehouse By prisrob When my granddaughter was in pre-school, one of her favorite adventures with her friends was visiting the firehouse. She told me all about the firemen and what they learned. From that moment on, whenever she passes a firehouse she waves at the firemen. This was the perfect opportunity for this little girl and her friends to understand the firehouse, and the kind firemen, so they were never frightened of the big fire engines and their noise.The authors, James McDonald and Brook Watson, are firefighters in Chicago. They understand how important it is for children to be educated about firemen, fire engines and the firehouse they live in. In this book, a little boy and his mother have an appointment at 4pm to go to the firehouse. There they meet the little boy's uncle who is a firefighter. He shows them the firehouse, the fire engine, the hoses and equipment. When you read this book you will see what adventures the little boy has with his uncle in the firehouse.Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children will be so excited to hear about the firemen and the firehouse. They will have so many questions, and this book will help to answer some of them. The illustrations by James Ganem are bright, vivid and beautiful. They depict the entire story of the little boy and his adventures at the firehouse. It is important for children to be educated about the world around them, and starting at an early age is the best idea. This is a fun story, filled with a lot of good information, told in a manner that children will understand. The best part of this book is that the book is told in rhyme, and that is one of the best methods to educate children. Tony Ganem (Illustrator) is one of the best children's books I've read in some time By Coco Given To Me For An Honest ReviewSplash Down: Adventures in Firefighting Series James McDonald (Author), Brooks Watson (Author), Tony Ganem (Illustrator) is one of the best children's books I've read in some time. I loved it! I do hope that there are more to come in the future. The reading age level is 2 - 8 and the grade level is P - 3. But I feel that it can be for anyone who loves fun imaginative books. A special visitor to the firehouse for the first time uses his imagination and he "becomes" a firefighter just like his Uncle. He learns that what he thought was all fun was really had work, skill and practices. So he decides that if he works very hard, one day he very well could become the firefighter he wants to be. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. The writing is very clear. This book could be a read along, read alone or a read to. It includes rhymes, firefighting facts and a surprise ending ******* I'm not telling. SURPRISE FOR YOU!!! Each child that finishes this book can get a FREE, printable, JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER COMPLETION AWARD that they can put their name on!! This includes boys and girls. Because girls become firefighters too. I gave this book 5 stars but it deserves so many more. This book would make a great addition to your child's bookshelf or to any library's bookshelf. It would also make a great gift. There are always birthdays and Christmas is just around the corner. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially to thos who love children. I look for more from James McDonald and Brooks Watson. All I can say keep them pouring out.

Silk, Author/Reviewer I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to read this exciting children's story which is written by two firefighters who are with the Chicago's Northside Fire Department. Who else could present such a worthy story for children? It just may give children the insight of one day becoming a brave firefighter themselves. The story is written in rhyming style to draw serious attention of the child. The illustrations are colorful and fun. I'll name the little boy in this story Jimmy, as his mom is taking him to where his uncle works at the local firehouse. His uncle is a big guy with a happy, sweet smile. He's looking forward to giving Jimmy a good, fun experience of what firemen do to put out fires and to save and protect people. It's a wonderful, meaningful story. I enjoyed it very much and hope it comes out in print. Till then, I'll share this tale with the 8-year old boy next door whose father is an EMT with the Salt Lake Unified Fire Authority. I smiled and laughed while reading this story, it's so much fun! Thanks James and Brooks for sharing this fine story!

Karen O'Brien's art is whimsical and visually interesting and engaging, and sitting and looking through it simply for the pictures is worth the money - the fantastic techniques are a bonus. I will be inspired by this book for quite a while to come!

Excellent Reproduction of a Classic Text with Broad Appeal By Dr. Philip Johnson The publisher has done a first class job in reproducing a text first published in 1912. The book is printed on quality paper and beautifully bound, though what the seascapes on the cover have to do with lead-acid batteries is a mystery.The book itself was written in the pre-quantum mechanics era and benefits from the simplicity of science at that time. The technology has advanced some since then but, apart from recombinant technology used in maintenance-free lead acid batteries, this book is as relevant today as it was when first published. It is also a fine example of how a book should be written if the technology it describes is to appeal to a broader audience than fellow researchers in the field.It is highly recommended: for collectors, this book is an essential addition and has a place on the shelf between Sir Isaac Newton's "The Principia" and Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time"; for students and engineers, it contains all the fundamental science needed to understand batteries in general without the heavy mathematics; for technical writers, it is a fine example of clear and understandable explanations of scientific processes.

Franco Podría decirse que este libro pertenece a la corriente de la ciencia ficción «suave», ya que trata más que nada sobre las diferencias entre dos grupos humanos: los presentes y los futuros. Quizá a más de uno le cause un poco de comezón entre las cejas el acercamiento tan simplificado del viaje en el tiempo y la sociedad futura.Pero este libro no tiene como enfoque ese enamoramiento con los detalles tecnológicos tan común en las historias de ciencia ficción «dura», sino más bien explora las relaciones entre los personajes que la integran.Podría uno argumentar que una sociedad futura tan avanzada como la que Blanca Miosi retrata en este libro es para todo fin práctico ajena a la condición humana actual, de manera completa y total. De que fuera posible viajar al pasado, un viajero en el tiempo pudiera retroceder apenas unas cientos de años al pasado y llegaría a encontrar un mundo alienígena y confuso al que no podría adaptarse; cuánto más si fueran miles de años... Pero creo que el logro principal de esta novela es argumentar de manera entretenida y ágil que la condición humana sufre pocos cambios en sus fundamentos, y que cosas como la esperanza y el amor no conocen el paso del tiempo.Pasé un rato agradable las pocas horas que me tomó leer este libro hasta su final. Dicha lectura rápida no fue por prisa, sino por la habilidad de la autora al escribir una trama que arrastra de las solapas al lector y se lo lleva a rastras, desbocado, hasta llegar al desenlace.
