About the Author I grew up on a yacht, and so the family bookshelves became my favourite source of amusement early on. I flew on dragons with Anne McCaffrey's Pern series, made a serious effort to move to Narnia, spent most of my teens wanting to become a jockey after reading too much Dick Francis, and scared myself so badly with the Black Riders in Tolkien aged seven that I slept with the light on for six months. I started writing my own books in school, when a friend asked me why I didn't write down some of the stories I told myself. For me, writing a book is a unique chance to write the story I want to read, to travel into a universe I can create and meet the characters whose experiences keep me obsessively typing in the lunchroom, on the bus, and wake me up at night. I hope you enjoy the stories half as much as I enjoy writing them.

This is where you have to convince your readers that they can't wait to find out how the story continues in book three.With "Fighting Shadows" by J. C. Steel, the author has been totally successful. In this sequel to "Through the Hostage" all the characters, and particularly Khyria, the commander of Wildcat Cortia, become obsessively fascinating. Why does Khyria hide the strength of her talents? What happened in her early conditioning to link her so strongly to her second in command? Is she going to lead a rebellion? Why do so many people want her dead? A thrilling read - can't wait for the next instalment!

I read the first book in this series a while back and have eagerly been awaiting the release of book 2. I was nervous if it would live up to the quality of the first book, but I have to say, I ended up liking book 2 even more! Khyria is a character to love and watching her grow through the second novel was fantastic. The plot was full of plenty of twists to keep me on my toes without being confusing, which says a lot since I normally don't follow sci fi novels very easily. I've already recommended this one to my friends :)

There were lots of twists and turns in this book. I think this book was fun for me to read. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
