He has the occasional drink, he enjoys cigars, and he has a passionate relationship with Delores Colquitt, daughter of Senator Colquitt. He is describes as half-Indian, half-Irish and all American. Heir to a tremendous fortune, he is also in tune with his mother’s people, and his Grandfather Mephito is a Comanche Shaman. Anthony lives on the top three floors of the eighty-six floor of the Waldorf-Anthony Hotel in New York. He also has a hidden base in the Catskills known as the Teepee. He has another hideout, the Pueblo, in the Southwestern United States, a hotel/resort built at an oasis. He has two pals, Tom Gentry, an Irishman that accompanies him on his adventures, and Dawkins, his Butler. Mephito guards the Teepee and helps his grandson with spirit visions.Now on to our story. NOTICE: Any spoilers are totally unintended.A Russian expatriate who has lived quietly in New York for more than two decades is suddenly kidnapped from a busy street, with his wife looking on. The old man is a Cossack, and he does not go quietly. He is still fast and strong enough to leave one attacker bleeding to death in the street.He is taken to an island prison camp, where he learns that his past has finally caught up with him. Years ago, he had been a conspirator who robbed, beat, and stabbed a Russian Noble. The group took all his wealth, which was considerable, and left his body to the wolves.Now, a man called Koschei is looking for that gold, and revenge for that awful night. He has spent decades on his plans and he does not intend to be thwarted by anyone or anything. People who get in his way are mercilessly butchered.But the old Cossack’s wife is a friend to Delores Colquitt, who just happens to a boyfriend named Jim Anthony. Right now, Anthony is headed back to New York after clashing with an old enemy, Reinhardt Cloud.Now Jim Anthony goes on the hunt, hoping to find the old Cossack before Koschei kills him. After a spat on the prison isle, Anthony escapes with a freed prisoner. He elects to take the freed Russian to the Teepee for safety. But the man is sneaky and violent, and eventually Mephito has to take him out to save Jim’s life.Arriving at home at the Waldorf-Anthony Hotel, Jim Anthony finds Koschei waiting with hostages. One of the hostages is Delores Colquitt. And Koschei shows he is serious by killing the old Cossack’s wife in front of Anthony. He orders Jim Anthony to find the wealth stolen by the conspiracy or Delores will die.The book is a rip-roaring pulp adventure which really showcases this pulp hero. Fast paced from the getgo, the action goes through the thrill of victory and the crushing agony of defeat. From the Waldorf-Anthony Hotel to the hidden Teepee; from New York to the prison island ship graveyard; and on to a earthshaking conclusion in tunnels beneath Mongolia—Jim Anthony battles the forces of the villainous Koschei. And Koschei has no intentions of playing the game fairly, so Anthony follows the old saying: Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer!Joshua Reynolds has done an excellent job of creating this tale, and it was a real pleasure to read. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Anthony done well By Doctor Panic As was the case with more than a few characters in the day, Jim Anthony was known as a doc Savage clone. I have always felt that out of the group, he stood out more than the others. What Josh Reynolds has done goes above and beyond in making him even more unique. As always the author develops a great plot as well as characters. The story is fast paced and suspenseful as well as being chalked full of action. I loved it, and can't wait for the next

Brown From my "Pulp Super-Fan" Blog:Pro Se Press has put out another new Jim Anthony novel from Joshua Reynolds: The New Adventures of Jim Anthony, Vol. 2: Red Shambhala.For those not familiar, Jim Anthony was a sort-of Doc Savage "clone" published by Trojan/Culture Publications in the early 1940s.Anthony was "half Irish, half Indian, and all-American." More emotional than Doc, Anthony was a physical and mental marvel. He had a penthouse in the Waldorf-Anthony Hotel, which he owned, and had a secret mansion in the Catskills called "The Tepee." He was assisted by a small group of people include Tom Gentry, pilot and right-hand man; Mephito, his shaman grandfather; his butler; and Dolores Colquitte, his fiance, and the daughter of a U.S. senator.Altus Press is putting out a complete collection of the original stories (two so far with three novels) and Airship 27 has done four volumes of new stories.As I've noted previously, Joshua Reynolds seems to be taking the lead in writing new Jim Anthony stories, putting out new stories in both Airship 27's collections, as well as in Black Coat Press's "Tales of the Shadowmen," and the prior volume from Pro Se Press.This story has Anthony pulled into a case dealing with a stolen fortune of gold during the Russian Revolution. A group of Czarists had fled to Outer Mongolia to fight back against the Bolsheviks. To help fund their cause, they took a fortune from a young member of the Russian royal family, leaving him for dead. Now, the remainder of this group is being hunted down by a sinister figure calling himself "Koschei" who has two vicious eagles at his beck and call. Will he learn the secret of the fortune in gold before Anthony can stop him?Overall, this is another great new Jim Anthony story. There are also hints at other pulp and New Pulp characters and locations. Reynolds has added to the mythology of Anthony, the only issues I have is when he adds stuff that I feel doesn't jibe with the original stories, like saying he is a veteran of the Great War, which I think makes him too old and doesn't line up with what is told in the original stories. And the Pueblo is a resort, not another Anthony refuge.But that aside, it's another good Jim Anthony story. I look forward to the next one! What I would like to see is a longer work, or perhaps something like the first three original Anthony novels were he went up against the same villain over a series of stories.
