The most obvious difference is that the senior edition is physically larger and has larger text, so it is easier to see without a magnifying glass. Here you can see a couple photos of sample pages with both books side-by-side.The senior edition changed some of the titles to make it sound simpler, for example in the chapter on Email, the section in the regular book "Configuring Email Accounts" is renamed to "Getting Started." In the senior edition some of the instruction steps are clarified with screenshots and various highlights to draw attention to essential parts. The senior edition leaves out two chapters (I guess because the book has more pages overall with the larger size font) - "Maintaining and Protecting Your iPhone and Solving Problems" and "Finding and Listening to Music" are available online instead. This is because seniors usually don't have problems with fancy i-gadgets and they don't listen to music. ;)Overall this is a wonderful book that takes the regular edition and makes it a bit easier on the eyes.

By Kathy Cunningham This is a HUGE, heavy, and fairly intimidating tome – it’s not at all what I expected. The book has over 715 glossy pages, and weighs about 3 pounds. It’s not exactly something you can tuck into your purse or the glove compartment of your car. This is a substantial reference book with more information in it than most of us will ever actually need. That said, it is very clearly illustrated, with excellent directions for doing just about anything you might want to do with your iPhone. It also has a comprehensive index, so you can look up what you want to find out about (rather than thumb through hundreds of pages). The book covers a range of iPhones (4, 5, and 6 versions), and because of that there are sections that won’t apply to your phone. I have the 5s, and I had no trouble finding the material that applied to that version (for example, the “getting started” illustration shows the iPhone 6, but the differences are clearly marked so that I could clearly find where the Wake/Sleep button is on my phone). The entire first chapter of this book is for people who know absolutely nothing about an iPhone, which can be a huge help for people who are a little bit technophobic (or a lot!).The book is aimed at “seniors,” which is what inspired me to select it for review – I’m definitely a senior, and I’ve only owned my iPhone for about nine months. I know how to make a phone call, how to send a text message, how to take a picture, and how to use Safari to surf the web. But that’s about it. I don’t know anything about Apps, or how to use Maps to get driving directions. Chapter 15 was extremely helpful with that, with clearly itemized instructions and good illustrations. So now I can get spoken directions from my phone without dragging out my Garmin! If you’re a “youngster” (ha!) you undoubtedly know everything there is to know about your iPhone – my adult sons are fearless with technology and have never needed any instruction manual to figure out how to use a phone or a computer. But I like having this book on hand, even though I’ll probably never use more than about 20% of it. It’s just nice to have information like this readily available whenever I have a question.Bottom line, if you’re new to iPhones and you aren’t comfortable just experimenting to discover what your phone can do, this is a great reference book. Just be aware of its awesome size and weight! I was expecting something much smaller – but then I had no idea how much this little phone could actually do. I’m still not totally cool with cell phones, and I miss the days when a drive in the car meant I was out of touch and totally on my own. Little by little I find myself opening up to the modern world, so this book will definitely help. I may also use it to quiz my sons about things they may not yet have discovered about their phones. Well, maybe!

My husband and I rely on our teenage sons to help us with our iPhones. If they are not at home, we are out of luck. No more! This book is a thick as a Bible. It is filled with all the information you will need to operate your iPhone. For example, I enlarged the font for my texts, learned how to use voice command, and downloaded some apps. Truly, this book has it all. If you are not tech savvy, this step-by-step manual is for you. In no time you will learn how to use all the functions on your phone. I especially love how it has pictures along with the instructions for visual learners. If you are looking for a useful gift for parents or grandparents, I highly recommend this book.
