Mindar cares for his characters a great deal (he's no Jonathan Franzen By Nick Rupert Mr. Mindar offers a memorable, well-structured romp through Argentina. The novella's protagonist, Matt Cravens, has come to Tierra del Fuego in hopes of working through his grief over Lisa, his deceased wife, and readers will end up "rooting" for him in no time. Mr. Mindar's prose is freighted with just enough detail to make his scenes feel tangible. His sentences never feel forced or over-written. I appreciate Mr. Mindar's nuanced rendering of the Argentinian landscape and its cuisine. Matt Cravens' journey as a character is touching, and it's obvious that Mr. Mindar cares for his characters a great deal (he's no Jonathan Franzen, in that regard!). It's also worth noting that in a market that's saturated with bloated, leviathan-like novels, Mr. Mindar offers the reader a no-nonsense narrative that can be enjoyed in the span of a single afternoon.

You’re in good hands with this author By Raymond McKee Lou Mindar’s novella “Tierra del Fuego” details the journey of modern man Matt Cravens, who flees his routine life in Chicago to embark on a South American voyage after the unexpected loss of his wife. Here our sympathetic narrator struggles with more than loss. Several unresolved issues linger and the answers he so desperately needs have all died with his wife. Was she having an affair? Was she planning to divorce him? What were the reasons behind her growing emotional distance? It's the type of questions that would drive any person insane. Mindar gives us a vivid and authentic portrayal of South American landscape and culture, with plenty of food and drinks along the way. Not a detail seems unnecessary, as we’re simply along for the ride. This is an excellent novella and a quick read full or warmth, humor, and intrigue. It’s a journey well worth it. I look forward to more from Mr. Mindar.

A trip from Chicago to South America, one that sounds like just the exciting adventure I am too afraid to make personally, but would love to live vicariously through the character in a book. I curled up with my cup of Yorkshire Gold tea from Taylors of Harrogate, only to find out it makes an appearance in the novella (small world). The story was exciting with descriptive details, that seem to have come from someone who has actually made the journey!
