2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Hot Romance in a New Direction By M. Varhalmi I love Silver James' books. It was so amazing to read the spin-off from her Wolves books. And the Wolves make an appearance in this tale because someone was trying to kill of the SEALs. Ms. James writes terrific action adventure romance and romantic suspense. I wasn't disappointed with this new direction and can't wait to read more from the Hard Target series. :)

I just finished the first book in the series, Double Cross, and hate to say that I am a bit disappointed. This book felt rushed and ended too quickly for me. It felt like I was watching a movie and an hour in, the end credits start rolling and I'm just like, "Whaaa??? WTF?" The book didn't seem to have a climax where you wonder how the characters could possibly get their HEA. It didn't have an ending where all the pieces fall into place and the reader is happy that it is not a book with another freaking cliffhanger. This book doesn't exactly end in a cliffhanger, it just leaves too many questions unanswered - questions about the main characters. I can understand leaving questions about an overall theme in a series that is then picked up again in the following books; but this one leaves pretty big questions unanswered about the main female character. I will plan on reading the other books in the series - I just hope they are a bit more developed and finish on a more satisfying note than this one did. Overall, I would recommend this book. It is a good book in what I hope will be a good series, but it isn't a great book that can fully satisfy a readers curiosity and need for answers. It is on Kindle Unlimited so take an afternoon off and read the story - I just want other readers to open the book with the knowledge that I now have so they aren't as disappointed as I was.Also, the sex scenes aren't that blush-inducing. It barely touches on some D/s themes but on a scale of 0 to 'Holy Hotness Batman!' I give it a five. Extra steamy to those with virgin eyes, but to most everyone else it will get you - at most - slightly hot under the collar.PS - Silver, I am incredibly disappointed about SEAL Team Atlantis. I understand Mother 'explained' things to you, but I am still saddened that I won't get to hear more about all the members with the special abilities on that team. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Action-packed romantic thriller By Lisa Tracy I read Double Cross with Amazon Prime, and am thrilled to have found Silver James' work. Her fast-paced romantic thriller is the first in the Hard Target series. Although Double Cross stands alone well on its own, it refers to Ms. James' Wolves series several times, and I wish I had read them first so that I had a firm grasp on the related back story.Both the hero and heroine are strong characters who successfully overcome major obstacles. The novel's non-stop action will keep you turning pages long after you promised yourself "just 15 more minutes." And don't forget to turn on the ceiling fan -- there are a couple of hot, hot, hot scenes!As much as I enjoyed Double Cross, I would have liked to get a better feel for the characters and their motivations. Cory is a pediatrician, yet we don't really see her in that role or understand why she feels so passionately about her vocation. And we don't have any real insight into why Duke joined the Navy SEALs.Even so, I've already downloaded Moonstruck: Secrets, the first book in Ms. James' Wolves series. I'm looking forward to reading it!
