The Circular Saws and Jig Saws book shows you what blades to choose for your work as well as some excellent shortcuts. The jig saw chapters show you the various components of your tool, blade selections, blade installation and a good variety of operational procedures.Part of a new series, these small manuals feature clear, useful color drawings as well as photographs. It is 7x5" and has 85 pages: 40 pages on a handheld circular saw, 37 pages on the handheld jig saw (a.k.a saber saw), a 1 page table of contents, 2 pages on what you will learn, 2 page title and revisions, and 2 page index.I have owned varieties of these two tools for 20-40 years. What I know, I figured out for myself or from an owner's manual if it was new. Most anyone who has worked with wood at all can figure it out. The most obvious jig for me was a t-square to be used as a guide and also to mark where the blade will hit when lining up a cut. I used the same jig for my first router.The circular saw discusses types of saws, but fails to mention that newer saws have laser beams to help line them up, something I would look for if buying a new one. It talks about types of blades, accessories. There's a chapter on basic cuts. Some basic jigs are presented for cutting sheets of plywood.The jigsaw chapters follow very much the same content.For me, the most useful thing is some jig ideas, for ones I did not already think of myself. For a lot of woodworkers, this will seem very basic, but it might be just the thing for beginners.I'd give this 3 stars, plus a half star for a couple of jig ideas. Rounded up to 4.
