About the Author W. Michael Farmer, a member of the Western Writers of America, learned about the rich mosaic of historic figures depicted in his books while living in Las Cruces, New Mexico for fifteen years. He has a Ph.D. in Physics and has conducted atmospheric aerosol research with laser based instruments. He has published short stories in anthologies, won awards for essays, and published essays in magazines. His first novel, Hombrecito's War, won a Western Writers of America Silver Spur Award for Best First Novel in 2006 and was a New Mexico Book Award Finalist for Historical Fiction in 2007. His other novels include: Hombrecito's Search, Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright: The Betrayals of Pancho Villa, and Conspiracy: The Trial of Oliver Lee and James Gililland.

In "Killer of Witches," Michael Farmer gives voice to a new American hero -- Yellow Boy, an Apache warrior whose riveting story from boyhood to manhood is fresh, passionate, and totally believable. With deep sensitivity and understanding of Apache culture, Farmer presents Yellow Boy, his family, and friends in all their rich, multidimensional complexity. What a pleasure to read a book from a Native American hero's perspective, one that has been missing from our literature. This book demolishes Native American stereotypes and delivers its characters as fully realized human beings. But the author's most outstanding achievement is the authenticity of Yellow Boy's voice. There is no distance between Yellow Boy and the reader, no authorial interruption, no departure from the hero's mind and soul. Michael Farmer writes as if he lived alongside Yellow Boy and knew him well -- the work of a truly skillful author. All the basic human emotions--love, compassion, fear, anger, hatred, hope, and revenge figure in this page-turning narrative. From the beginning, vivid details transport the reader to the novel's southwest setting.

Well-Written Novel of a Mescalero Apache Warrior and his People By Susan A very interesting view of the Mescalero Apaches during the time that they were being forced by the US Government to live in compounds "protected" by the US Army, their resistance, their desire to safeguard their traditional way of life, and the realization among some of the more realistic members of their nation that this would no longer be possible. Seen through the eyes of a young warrior, Yellow Boy, and his family, the reader learns a lot about the culture and history of these proud people, their interactions with Americans and Mexicans in the territory where they lived and beyond. The characters are well-drawn and believable. Even though we know how the story must end, the writer takes us there on a circuitous route which keeps the reader's interest until the end and leaves him/her hoping for a sequel.
