Contains Some PREVIOUSLY RELEASED Material By SLS ~Please Note: You might already own much of the content of Thimbles & Things if you own Kumiko Sudo's Flower Origami, Kokoro no Te, and Wagashi~After waiting years for a new book by Kumiko Sudo, I find myself alarmingly despondent over Thimble & Things. Which is silly, since I will always remain an unabashed fan. But there is just nothing here that is evocative of Sudo's characteristically charming ways with chiromen. Her books from 2007 and earlier are treasures in themselves, treasures that contained even more treasures that begged to be conjured and possessed. This book might be best used as an "Intro to Sudo" or "Sudo Lite". It could serve well as a basic skill building resource for younger or inexperienced crafters. But if you are a longtime follower, there is nothing that exciting in any of the 12 projects in Thimbles & Things. The embroidery has no flair and the embellishments are far from ravishing. The finished items are elemental and spare. Instead of being elegant in their understatement, they are flat, inert, almost primitive. Some projects are just impractical, as with the 2 different patterns for thimbles made of felt. (I'm going to need some Teflon and Kevlar with that felt.)The only projects that were of fleeting interest to me became less interesting when I realized they appear in the earlier books I already own. And at the time I write this, there is nothing in the Amazon description that mentioned this. There was no Look Inside feature available for the copyright page, which would have saved me some currency. And despondency. So, recommended for brand new sewers and Sudo fans in the making. That's the best I can say about Thimbles & Things.

Since I already own the other books that made this a waste of money. I'll gift it to someone but it's sure not what .i was expecting. The pictures are, of course, beautiful, the projects exquisite, and the directions very clear.
