From the Author Teaching online classes in various techniques used in crazy quilts has been a great joy of mine these past few years. I still do a dying class and a basic class free online. You can check these out at my blog, shawkl.comThe more advanced classes have been rolled up into this series of books. This first volume covers all of the tasks to design, piece, and embellish a beautiful crazy quilt block. The reader will learn all about: the principles of design and how to select the best fabrics to use for a project; how to dye fabric, ribbon or lace pieces; an easy approach to creating hand embroidery seams; the correct way to work with silk ribbon; and how to master surface beading techniques.While this book contains a LOT at 140 pages...with charts, patterns, diagrams, etc. IT can not possibly cover every embellishment that is possible on crazy quilts. Really, that would be an endless book since it would cover how to crochet, tatt, make lace, sew, etc. This book is only the beginning...although a very detailed direction that will result in beautiful crazy quilt blocks...it will be accompanied later this year by 3 other volumes. These other books will spend time only on a single type of embellishment...such as working with ribbons, more complex embroidery motifs, and going beyond the average style of block. I believe you will enjoy this book because it is not only full of great instructions it has loads of beautiful color photos of crazy quilt work!
