5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Systematic, including screenshots--an excellent introduction to Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook By Elisa 20 Covering all Office 2016 software in one book is ambitious. Each of these programs has individual books devoted to them alone. But "Microsoft Office 2016 Step-by-Step" actually does a very good job of teaching the essentials of each of these beyond the beginning level--including Office (an overview), Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook in just over 500 pages. If you want to learn more than one of these apps--or see how these 2016 apps differ from a version you already use--this is a good way to learn the essentials. For many people, this book will give you all that you need.As someone who finds "step by step" instructions essential, I appreciate the clear and logical approach of this book. But it is also excellent to see that this book also includes screenshots--in color--along with the written directions. A perfect combination. This is advanced enough to make a good reference "for home or vgf office use". It's good for people who've used earlier versions of any of these apps, but will also be clear enough for new users, too. Lambert does an excellent job of showing how to use Word, Powerpoint and Excel to create and edit files, and Outlook to organize email, contacts and appointments. In Office you'll learn an overview of how to display properties, display views, and navigate. In Word, you'll modify text (including styles, themes, formatting, list making), collaborate on documents (including comments/tracking changes), merge. There's much here for business use, of course--adding comments to documents, creating envelopes, inserting fields, making lists, refining data. The downloadable files let you practice all of these.Excel, of course, is all about working with data. This book shows you how to perform calclulations, manage worksheet data, reorder and summarize data--all practicable again--and other ways of organizing and analyzing numbers. In Powerpoint you create and manage slideshows, including inserting graphics and adding sound and movement. Again, these are things you can practice with the downloadable files. Outlook shows how to send and receive email, organize your inbox, and manage schedules. Each section presents key skill sets and groups related skills by topics. At end of each chapter there are practices with the skill that was covered. There are allsidebars with useful tips included throughout.Like many people who will be interested in this book, I've used earlier versions of these apps, but somewhat haphazardly--picking up what I needed to know for a given task. What I liked about this presentation right away was that it is so systematic--filing in gaps in some things I hadn't learned earlier and showing how 2016 apps were similar and different from the versions I have already used. Even with Word--the one I'm most familiar with--I picked up some new things. For beginners or intermediate users, this book has a lot to offer.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. definitely step by step By Jeanne Boyarsky This book covers Microsoft 2016 on Windows 7, 8 and 10. It starts with basic skills and gets to more advanced ones. Each chapter ends with detailed practice tasks. Many of the chapters also come with practice files. Where applicable, the book covers Office 365 as well.I learned about touch vs mouse mode. I also learned you can edit a PDF in Word 2016 and more ways of doing tables, photos and charts than I knew existed. There were a good quantity of tip and important callout boxes along with lots of step by step instructions. I particularly liked the warning for screenreaders in chapter 5. The appendixes were lots of keyboard shortcuts and a glossary which is also useful.Good book.---Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for writing this review on behalf of CodeRanch.
